About Neo Cocoa
Neo Cocoa is the stuff truffle dreams are made of. In its young life, San Francisco Bay Area-based truffle maker Neo Cocoa has received praise and acclaim in the San Francisco Chronicle, 7x7 Magazine and named one of the "Top Ten Chocolatiers in North America" by Dessert Professional.
Neo Cocoa also has some serious metal to back up the praise: It recently received the most awards at the 2012 SF International Chocolate Salon including Best Truffle, Most Luxurious Chocolate Experience and Most Likely Addiction!
The “heart” of a chocolate truffle is a term coined by Neo Cocoa founder, owner and pastry chef Christine Doerr, which describes the uniqueness of her truffles. Neo Cocoa’s truffles are like none other you’ll find on the market today. She’s added flavor twists on traditional French or European-style truffles and created a confection much more delicate than its hard-shelled American-style counterpart. Christine’s truffles are shell-less. They are truly the heart of a truffle—rich, creamy chocolate delicately dusted with cocoa powder. Her unique blend of natural yet decadent ingredients is what makes Neo Cocoa’s hand-made chocolate truffles so creamy, unique, and irresistible.
She began her chocolaty journey way back in the 1980’s working her first job at a retail chocolate shop called Cocolat which inspired her to attend to the California Culinary Academy. She completed her internship at the Cocolat bakery in Berkeley and graduated from the CCA in 1990. From there, she worked in many bakeries and restaurants as a pastry chef for more than 10 years. She decided to go back to school to get her BFA in Graphic Design. She worked as designer for 6 years until the kitchen, partially chocolate, called her back.
Christine started professionally making the truffles in early 2008 and was fortunate enough to be accepted into the kitchen incubation program in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District. In 2011 she graduated from the program and now has her own confection kitchen in Belmont.
